ZHUJI, China, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Xinjiang Flying Tigers beat the Shandong Heroes 99-97 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Wednesday.

Zhou Qi contributed 17 points and 20 rebounds, while Tang Caiyu finished with 24 points for Xinjiang. Although six Shandong players were in double-digits, Shandong were unable to take the lead in the first quarter.

With consecutive three-pointers from Li Jingyu, Shandong took the lead and ended up the first half 57-46. In the third quarter, Zhou Qi and Tang Caiyu scored continuously to narrow the gap to three points. The lead seesawed in the last quarter and Xinjiang managed to have the lead before the period ended with several three-pointers.

"Shandong is a strong opponent and played very well in the first half. This victory means a lot for our young team. The players tried their best to overtake the lead. They learned a lot," said Xinjiang coach Adiljan, who spoke highly of Zhou Qi's performance.

"We didn't maintain our advantage after foreign players took the stage. The weak defense gave our opponents many opportunities to fight back. We should learn from our mistakes," said Shandong head coach Gong Xiaobin. Enditem
