ZHUJI, China, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Jiangsu Dragons grabbed their first victory of this season after seeing off the Qingdao Eagles 114-113 in the fifth round of the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA) here on Wednesday.

Jiangsu led by four points in the first quarter, but Qingdao kept chasing the scoreline and retook a seven-point advantage before the halftime break.

The two sides traded the lead in the third quarter with the Eagles maintaining a five-point advantage. Wu Guanxi of Jiangsu converted one of two free throws and helped the dragons turn the game around with 15.8 seconds remaining on the clock.

Qingdao's Darius Adams missed a buzzer-beater, allowing his rivals to celebrate their first victory.

Title favorites the Xinjiang Flying Tigers edged the Shandong Heroes 99-97 after a strong comeback in the fourth quarter, winning two regular games consecutively.

Local star Zhou Qi contributed 17 points and 20 rebounds for Xinjiang against Shandong.

With consecutive three-pointers from Li Jingyu, Shandong ended the first half up 57-46. In the third quarter, Zhou Qi and Tang Caiyu scored continuously to narrow the gap to three points.

Xinjiang turned the tables before the final buzzer, and Shandong missed two chances consecutively in the last 20 seconds.

In the other games played on Wednesday, the Liaoning Flying Leopards smashed Tianjin Pioneers 119-91, the Beijing Royal Fighters defeated Nanjing Monkey Kings 110-82, and the Jilin Northeast Tigers won over the Guangzhou Loong Lions 99-87, keeping their unbeaten record in the season.
