Brooks' 37 points lead Guangdong over Shanghai

ZHUJI, China, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Guangdong Southern Tigers defeated the Shanghai Sharks 119-105, extending their winning streak to five in the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Thursday.

Marshon Brooks led Guangdong with a game-high 37 points, including six three-pointers. Sonny Weems had 17 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds, while Ren Junfei added 16 points.

Brooks scored 12 points in the first quarter as Guangdong opened the game with an 16-2 run, but Shanghai used its defense to fuel the comeback, cutting the deficit to 55-54 at the halftime when Dong Hanlin hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Jimmer Fredette's 3-point play put Shanghai up briefly 64-57 before the defending champion responded with a 8-0 run. The two sides traded the lead until Guangdong bulit a 100-96 lead in the midway of the fourth quarter then put the game away.

Fredette and Zong Zan each scored 22 points for Shanghai. Enditem
