Sequel to hit food documentary tops China's popularity charts

BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Food documentary "Breakfast in China III" is currently the most popular Chinese-language TV series, according to review platform Douban.

A sequel to the 2019 documentary hit "Breakfast in China II," the show was co-produced by Tencent Video and has topped Douban's latest weekly popularity rankings for Chinese-language TV series.

Featuring the return of director Wang Shengzhi, the 30-episode documentary series will take audiences on a journey to find the most popular local breakfast dishes across China, focusing on 30 breakfast restaurants.

Released on Oct. 19, it currently boasts a rating of 9.1 out of 10 on Douban. "Breakfast in China II" and "Breakfast in China," both released in 2019, received respective ratings of 8.9 and 8.1.

"Once Upon a Bite 2," another food documentary produced by Tencent Video, topped the Douban charts for weeks following its release in April.

Directed by Chen Xiaoqing, "Once Upon a Bite 2" focuses on connections between distinctive delicacies around the world.
