OTTAWA, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- A man has been arrested in Canada's Quebec City on suspicion of killing two people and wounding five others with a sword on Halloween evening, local police said Sunday.

"According to our initial information, there is no indication that the suspect may have acted on motives other than personal ones," Quebec City police said on Twitter.

In a tweet Sunday morning, Quebec Province's Premier Francois Legault offered his condolences to the families of the victims.

"Quebec is waking up after a night of horror. Words fail to describe such a tragedy," Legault said.

The man, who was dressed in a medieval outfit, was arrested around 1 a.m. (0600 GMT) Sunday and taken to hospital after police were first notified of the stabbings around before 10:30 p.m. Saturday (0330 GMT Sunday).

Police have not confirmed whether more than one person was involved in the attack. Enditem
