Costa Rica expects 300,000 foreign tourists by year-end after border reopening

SAN JOSE, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Costa Rica on Sunday reopened its borders to international flights in anticipation of some 300,000 foreign visitors flying in by year-end.

According to the Costa Rican Tourism Institute, flight booking trends show that some 299,822 visitors can be expected by the end of this year.

The high season for Costa Rica begins with the arrival of travelers during the Thanksgiving Day break in the United States, which falls on Nov. 26.

Due to the pandemic, travelers bound for Costa Rica must first fill out a form called "Health Pass" on the website of the Costa Rican Ministry of Health, and have medical insurance coverage in case of requiring medical attention for COVID-19 while in the country.

According to the latest report from the ministry, Costa Rica has sao far reported 109,971 COVID-19 cases since March and the national death toll has reached 1,385. Enditem
