JAKARTA, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Aceh provincial police have thwarted smuggling of 81-kilogram crystal methamphetamine and 100 ecstasy pills from Malaysia, a police officer said.

In addition to the confiscation of the illegal goods, the police also arrested nine suspects, the Aceh provincial police's chief Inspector General Wahyu Widada was quoted by Antara news agency as saying on Tuesday.

"The police took a stern measure on one of them as he resisted against the arrest. However, he died at a hospital," Widada said, adding that the police also seized five cars, four motorcycles, cellphones, ATM cards and bank account books.

According to him, the police arrested members of an international drug network in different places in Aceh Timur district early on Friday after obtaining information from local people who said there was a drug smuggling to Aceh by sea from Malaysia.

Widada said that the perpetrators admitted that they had smuggled almost half a ton of crystal methamphetamine by sea seven times. Enditem
