SAN JOSE, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rains brought by Hurricane Eta, now downgraded to a tropical storm, have driven 773 people to shelters and caused serious damage to infrastructure, Costa Rica's National Emergency Commission (CNE) said on Wednesday.

According to the CNE, residents in high-risk areas were evacuated to 21 shelters along Costa Rica's Pacific coast as downpours caused 69 landslides that damaged or destroyed roadways in different communities.

Authorities maintain an orange alert for the Pacific coast in the provinces of Puntarenas and Guanacaste as the National Meteorological Institute forecasts that the rains will continue until Friday. Enditem
