According to the Traffic Police Department under the Lao Ministry of Public Security, there were 604 road accidents across the country in October, an increase of 107 accidents from the figures for September.

In the accidents in October, 79 people were killed, 864 others were injured and 1,074 vehicles were damaged.

Road accidents continue to kill or maim people across the country, with Savannakhet province recording the highest number of incidents.

The traffic police are concentrating on a road safety campaign, especially in schools, in a bid to reduce the rising toll of accidents.

The campaign provides information on traffic regulations and the dangers of careless driving. It is aimed at helping students and others have a better understanding of traffic rules and the risks posed by road accidents. Enditem
