LUSAKA, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese technology giant, Huawei Technologies, on Friday handed COVID-19 preventive materials to Zambian health authority aimed at helping the east African country tackle the pandemic.
The Chinese firm handed over 60,000 medical face masks to the Ministry of Health during a ceremony held in Lusaka, the country's capital.
Huawei Zambia Managing Director Anthony Yu said the company recognizes the progress Zambia has recorded in fighting the pandemic.
"As Huawei, we would like to see that progress on the fight against COVID-19 continue," he said.
He hoped that the donation of preventive equipment and materials will help to prevent the rapid spread of the virus and save many people from dying.
He further thanked the health ministry for being receptive to mutual partnership with Huawei.
Huawei, he said, remains committed to supplementing government efforts in fighting the pandemic and commended the government for the efforts to curb further spread of the virus.
Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya commended the Chinese firm for the continued support towards the fight against the pandemic.
"Their support has contributed to the gains we have made in this battle," he said.
According to him, this demonstrates a far-reaching significance to have Huawei as a leading Information and Communication Technology company to help local governments to prevent and control the pandemic.
Huawei has donated intelligent temperature equipment for access control and other COVID-19 preventive materials to Zambia.
