DAMASCUS, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Seven rebels were killed on Saturday by a drone attack in Syria's northwestern province of Idlib, a war monitor reported.

The seven rebels are not Syrians and from the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the umbrella group of the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The drone was on a suicide mission as it struck the rebels' position in the Jabal al-Zawiya mountain in the southern countryside of Idlib and destroyed it afterward, the Britain-based watchdog added.

It is not yet known whether the drone was sent by Syria, Russia or the Iranian forces, the Observatory noted.

However, Russian warplanes carried out 13 airstrikes in the Jabal al-Zawiya mountain on Saturday, according to the watchdog.

Idlib has emerged as the last major rebel stronghold in Syria.

Several areas in Syria are included in a cease-fire agreement reached earlier this year by Russia and Turkey.

The cease-fire was largely observed but violated several times by mutual shelling. Enditem
