SANTIAGO, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chile's President Sebastian Pinera on Monday said the economy has experienced five months of recovery, pointing to a strong rebound in 2021 from the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

"Our growth forecast for Chile ... is that this year it will see a fall of around 5 or 6 percent. But next year we will have a strong recovery," Pinera said during the National Agriculture Meeting organized by the National Agriculture Society.

"When you look at the net, that is how much we lose this year and how much we regain next year, we see that Chile is in a privileged position in the context of Latin America and also in the global context," said Pinera.

The pandemic-induced economic recession led to 2 million job losses, the equivalent of the jobs created in the last 10 years, he said.

"Fortunately, we have already seen five months of economic recovery ... and also five months of improving all the indicators regarding the coronavirus pandemic," Pinera said.

"Of the 2 million jobs we lost, we have already recovered 300,000," he said, adding the agricultural sector "has played and will continue to play a very important role" in spurring economic growth. Enditem
