COVID-19 cases in Uganda surpass 15,000

KAMPALA, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's ministry of health on Thursday reported 224 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the east African country to 15,217.

Out of 1,813 samples tested over the past 24 hours, 224 contacts and alerts turned positive for the coronavirus, the ministry said in a statement.

A total of four new deaths due to COVID-19 were recorded, bringing the total number of the virus deaths in the country to 143, it said.

According to the ministry, some 46 new recoveries were registered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 7,985 since the first case was reported on March 21 in the country. Enditem
