BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping's speech at the third Paris Peace Forum has practical significance for countries to achieve peace, stability and development, and helps to promote international cooperation in fighting COVID-19, stimulate economic recovery and safeguard world peace, overseas observers have said.

In his speech delivered via video link on Thursday, Xi called for solidarity and helping each other to jointly fight COVID-19, embracing openness and cooperation to jointly promote recovery, and upholding justice to jointly safeguard world peace.

Javira Ssebwami, reporter of Uganda's PML Daily, said it is good news for Africa and other developing countries, where health facilities are under massive pressure due to the pandemic, that President Xi reaffirmed that China will honor its commitment to make Chinese vaccines a global public good.

Aly Diouf, a China expert and former China correspondent with Senegalese national daily newspaper Le Soleil, said China has provided much help to African countries in this prolonged war against COVID-19, which has affected almost all countries.

Xi's emphasis on facilitating the joint global response against COVID-19 is very important, Diouf added.

Ali el-Hefny, Egypt's former ambassador to China and former deputy foreign minister, said President Xi stressed the need to uphold multilateralism, oppose unilateralism, hegemony and power politics, which is a demand of most states in the world.

French writer and sinologist Sonia Bressler spoke highly of Xi's suggestion on openness and cooperation to jointly promote recovery, saying his idea will promote win-win spirit and multilateralism in responding to the crisis and contribute to maintaining peace.

Piotr Gadzinowski, editor-in-chief of Polish newspaper Trybuna, said China has contributed to stimulating the world economy through practical actions such as deepening reforms, expanding opening up, maintaining the stability of the industrial and supply chains and promoting trade.

Noting that China has on many multilateral occasions pledged to pursue green development, Volker Tschapke, honorary president of Germany's Prussian Society, said Europe and China may join hands in this field to create more cooperation and development opportunities in the future. Enditem
