Iran, Iraq air force commanders discuss cooperation

TEHRAN, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Iraq's Air Force Commander Shahab Jahid Ali Al Shakarachi met his Iranian counterpart Aziz Nasirzadeh on Tuesday in Tehran, as part of a high-rank military Iraqi delegation aiming to expand cooperation with Iran.

According to the Iranian Army's public relations office, Nasirzadeh and Shakarachi discussed bilateral cooperation and Iran-Iraq synergy at a regional level.

Both commanders pointed to constructive interaction between Iran and Iraq in operational and technical fields, including the maintenance of manned and unmanned flight systems, as well as manpower training.

Other topics discussed in the meeting were operational cooperation in the fight against Takfiri terrorists and other forces threatening durable security for the two countries.

Al Shakarachi is part of a delegation headed by Iraq's Minister of Defense Juma Anad Saadoun that arrived in Tehran on Friday.

On Saturday, Iran's Defense Minister Amir Hatami expressed Tehran's readiness to assist its neighbor in strengthening its defense power and supply military equipment, in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart.

On Sunday, the Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Mohammad Hossein Baqeri announced the final steps in the drafting of an Iran-Iraq defense cooperation charter, after meeting with Iraq's Minister of Defense Juma Inad Saadoun. Enditem
