Tokyo stocks drop in morning on concerns over COVID-19 resurgence

TOKYO, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks fell Thursday morning with concerns raising about recent spikes of COVID-19 infections at home and abroad, offsetting optimism about progress in the development of a vaccine.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average decreased 161.21 points, or 0.63 percent, from Wednesday to 25,566.93.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 4.35 points, or 0.25 percent, at 1,716.30.

Iron and steel, air transportation and mining issues comprised those that decreased the most by the morning break. Enditem
