Lao authorities closely monitor inbound travelers amid COVID-19

VIENTIANE, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government has continued to closely monitor people entering the country to prevent a second wave of COVID-19.

Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control under Lao Ministry of Health, Latsamy Vongkhamsao, told a press conference in Lao capital Vientiane on Thursday that the government urged authorities countrywide to continue monitoring people entering Laos to prevent a second wave of COVID-19.

People entering Laos will be sent to quarantine centers for 14 days and the temperature of each person entering Laos must be checked, she said.

On Wednesday, a total of 1,851 people entering Laos through international border checkpoints. Of these, 1,083 people crossed the border with Thailand.

Some 25 people entered Laos from China, while 455 people entered Laos from Vietnam, and one person entered Laos from Cambodia.

A total of 287 people entered Laos via the Wattay International Airport in Vientiane, according to the report.

The National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said on Thursday that it has been quarantining 2,612 people at 34 accommodation centers across the country.

The Lao government has warned people countrywide and relevant authorities not to neglect containment and preventive measures.
