MALE, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Maldives has disbursed 8.2 million U.S. dollars in income support to 10,994 people affected by COVID-19, local media reported here Friday citing data from the Ministry of Finance.
State-owned PSM News reported that over 29,659 people applied for a government provisioned income support allowance since the start of the pandemic. So far, 10,994 have received the allowance up to Nov. 12.
The Maldives' income support allowance provides 323 U.S. dollars a month to workers who have been terminated, suspended without pay, sent on no-pay leave, or have had their wages reduced below 323 U.S. dollars due to COVID-19. Enditem
