Number of Bulgarians who travel drops by 23.6 pct in Q3

SOFIA, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- About 1.324 million Bulgarian residents traveled in the third quarter of 2020, a year-on-year decrease of 23.6 percent compared with the same period of last year, official data showed on Friday.

According to preliminary data of the country's National Statistical Institute (NSI), the number of Bulgarians who traveled within the country dropped by 5 percent year on year compared with the third quarter of 2019. The number of those who traveled abroad plunged by 88 percent in the third quarter of 2020.

NSI data showed that 94.1 percent of the Bulgarians traveled within the country in the third quarter of 2020, 3.2 percent traveled abroad, and 2.7 percent -- both in the country and abroad.

"Holiday and recreation" was the main reason for tourist trips in the country and abroad, with figures at 67.9 percent and 59.4 percent respectively, data showed.

The survey, which covered people aged 15 and over, also showed that the average spending per person for private trips was 187 U.S. dollars in the country and 475 U.S. dollars abroad.

Meanwhile, the average expenditure per person on business trips was 82 U.S. dollars for domestic trips and 636 U.S. dollars for outbound trips, according to the NSI. Enditem
