BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Child Companion Plan helped nearly 510,000 Chinese children by the end of October, said the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation Friday, which marks the World Children's Day.
Launched by the foundation in 2015, the program provides welfare, safety and health care support to left-behind children in rural areas by employing a full-time children's guardian called "companion mother" in every village.
In September this year, the program continued to provide protection to children against sexual assault, school bullying, risk of accidents and mental health problems in Jiangxi and Hubei provinces.
A total of 4,720 children in the two provinces have been covered by the program this year. Enditem
