NAIROBI, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Kenya league title winners, Gor Mahia FC, will open their continental 2020-21 CAF Champions League campaign without their new Brazilian coach, Roberto Oliveira Goncalves, in the dugout.

This is after the Confederations of African Football (CAF) wrote to the local governing body, Football Kenya Federation (FKF), asked the club to submit his CAF A coaching license before Gor's Champions League opener.

The record 19-time Kenyan champions are scheduled to travel to Kigali to face Rwanda titleholders APR FC on Nov. 28 in a preliminary round Champions League first-leg clash.

In a letter addressed to FKF CEO Barry Otieno on Friday, the continental governing body noted that Goncalves, appointed in October, lacks the CAF A license for the head coaches of the participating teams.

The Gor coach also lacks the CAF B license that is admissible for the competition if only the member country has not organized a CAF A license course in the last five years.

Gor risks further penalties, including expulsion from the continental competition, if they fail to provide the required paperwork to allow their coach to handle the team from the dugout for Africa's premier interclub competition. Enditem
