CHENGDU, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Anyue County in southwest China's Sichuan Province has seen a bumper harvest of lemons thanks to its favorable natural environment.
Anyue, dubbed China's "lemon capital," has grown the fruit on about 34,667 hectares, accounting for more than 80 percent of China's total.
The county's lemon output this year is expected to reach 550,000 tonnes, worth about 14 billion yuan (2.1 billion U.S. dollars), according to the county's lemon industry development center.
Tian Zaize, the center's director, said ample sunshine and mild weather through the year make Anyue an ideal place for producing lemons.
The county has seen surging lemon exports despite the COVID-19 pandemic. From September 2019 to August 2020, the export volume of Anyue lemons quadrupled year on year to more than 130,000 tonnes, according to the center.
This year's harvest season for Anyue lemons lasts until December. Enditem
