ULAN BATOR, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia registered 11 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the national caseload to 640, according to the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD).

The latest confirmed cases are locally transmitted or people who had close contact with previously confirmed cases in the country's capital Ulan Bator, Amarjargal Ambaselmaa, head of the NCCD's Surveillance Department, said at a press conference.

The Asian country has so far reported 214 domestically transmitted cases, notably in Ulan Bator and the provinces of Selenge, Darkhan-Uul, Govisumber, Orkhon and Dornogovi.

The first locally transmitted case was a woman whose 29-year-old husband, a transport driver, returned from Russia and tested positive for the virus four days after he was released from a 21-day mandatory isolation on Nov. 6.

The country has imposed a nationwide lockdown until Dec. 1 to halt the virus's spread and identify all people who had contact with locally transmitted COVID-19 patients. Enditem
