CHANGCHUN, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Three northeastern provinces of China will further improve a joint mechanism of air pollution prevention and control to avoid heavy pollution in the region.

Environmental authorities of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning provinces, which share similar meteorological conditions and industrial structure, agreed to facilitate cooperation in meteorological monitoring and environmental research in a recent meeting held in Changchun, capital of Jilin.

As discussed during the meeting, if heavy air pollution is forecasted in one of the three provinces, the other two would take emergency measures in advance to slow down the accumulation of pollutants and effectively flatten the curve of pollution.

They would also work to better coordinate rules in environmental management, as well as improve information sharing on thorny issues such as pollution caused by the open burning of straws, which happens after the autumn harvest in some rural areas. Enditem
