MOSCOW, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Electronic gadgets need to pre-install Russian software before being sold in the country starting Jan. 1, 2021, a decree signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin showed Monday.

The order covers computers, smart TVs, laptops, smartphones and tablets, and Mishustin instructed the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media to accept applications of Russian software companies.

Search engines, browsers, anti-virus and virtual assistant programs, messengers, navigator apps and email services will be among the pre-installed, said the ministry, which will send a list of software to the Russian government for approval by Dec. 15.

On Nov. 21, the Russian State Duma, or the lower house of parliament, passed a bill imposing obligatory installment of domestic software on electronic devices sold in Russia starting Jan. 1 next year. Enditem
