BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BANGKOK -- Thailand's National Vaccine Institute said on Tuesday that local COVID-19 vaccine's production is scheduled to begin in mid-2021.

The COVID-19 production technology will be transferred from the AstraZeneca-Oxford University alliance, the institute's director Nakorn Premsri said.

TBILISI -- Georgia reported 3,128 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing its total tally to 111,818, the country's National Center for Disease Control and Public Health said.

A total of 1,504 of the 3,128 new cases were confirmed in the capital city of Tbilisi, the center said.

LONDON -- Travelers arriving in England from abroad will be able to reduce their quarantine by more than half if they test negative after five days, a senior British official announced Tuesday.

Under the new measure, passengers who arrive from a destination not on the British government's travel corridors list will still need to enter self-isolation. But they can reduce the 14-day period by paying for a test from a private firm after five days, according to British Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.

YANGON -- The number of COVID-19 cases has risen to 82,236 in Myanmar on Tuesday, according to a release from the Health and Sports Ministry, with 1,731 new infections in the past 24 hours.

The death toll has increased to 1,784, with 19 new deaths on Tuesday.

TIANJIN -- North China's Tianjin Municipality adjusted two COVID-19 middle-risk areas to low-risk after no new domestically transmitted cases have been reported for 14 consecutive days there, according to a press conference on Tuesday.

The two areas, both located in the Binhai New Area, were classified as medium-risk starting Nov. 10 after confirmed cases had been reported there.

HANOI -- Vietnam recorded four new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing its total tally to 1,316 with 35 deaths from the coronavirus epidemic, said the Ministry of Health.

The new cases are two Indian nationals and two Vietnamese citizens held in quarantine, who recently entered Vietnam from abroad.

ISTANBUL -- Turkish Health Ministry is preparing to hire 12,000 new health workers amid the sharp increase of the daily COVID-19 cases, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced on Tuesday.

In a tweet he posted, Koca said the recruitments will include 7,000 nurses, 1,700 midwives, and 2,864 health technicians, as well as other personnel in 14 fields.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia on Tuesday reported 2,188 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the highest daily spike since the coronavirus outbreak in the country, bringing the national total to 58,847.

TEHRAN -- Iran's Health Ministry reported 13,721 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, raising the total nationwide infections to 880,542.
