COLOMBO, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's delisting of all impoverished counties from the country's poverty list is a historic milestone globally and its experience should be learned by countries with clusters of absolute poverty, a Sri Lankan expert said.

The last nine impoverished counties, all in southwest China's Guizhou Province, have eliminated absolute poverty, the provincial government announced on Monday.

"This achievement is an indication of the effectiveness of the Chinese path to development or socialism with Chinese characteristics," said Luxman Siriwardena, executive director of advocacy and research think-tank Pathfinder Foundation based in Sri Lanka.

With the final nine counties shaking off poverty, China has removed all its 832 impoverished counties nationwide from the poverty list.

"All developing countries and even developed market economies which have clusters of absolute poverty should learn from the Chinese development experience, especially that in poverty alleviation," said Siriwardena. Enditem
