15 wounded in car bomb explosion in S. Afghanistan: official

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 people were wounded in a car bomb explosion outside a police office in Kandahar city, capital of Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar, on Wednesday, a provincial source said.

"The incident occurred roughly at 10:30 a.m. local time when a terrorist rammed an explosive-laden vehicle to the entrance gate of police station of Police District 11, and the explosion caused panic and destruction," a city security source told Xinhua anonymously.

The police office, locating in Dwahom Hino Mina area, was severely damaged in the attack, he said, adding that the wounded were transported by ambulances and police vehicles to a regional hospital.

The wounded included 11 police officers and four civilians.

"The force of the blast smashed the windowpanes and glasses of buildings in a big radius," the source said.

In the meantime, Jamal Barakzai, spokesman of provincial police department, told Xinhua that six people were wounded in the incident.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Over the past months, big Afghan cities have witnessed a spate of terror attacks by the Taliban insurgents and the Islamic State. Enditem
