Iraq reports 2,483 new COVID-19 cases, 544,670 in total

BAGHDAD, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Iraqi Health Ministry reported on Thursday 2,483 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total nationwide infections to 544,670.

The ministry also reported 39 new deaths and 2,322 more recovered cases in the country, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 12,125 and the total recoveries to 474,376.

A total of 3,378,165 tests have been carried out across the country since the outbreak of the disease in February, with 30,821 done during the day, according to the statement.

For the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Iraq, Thursday's tests exceeded 30,000 tests, of which only 8 percent were tested positive, compared to 22 percent in the previous months, the ministry said in a separate statement.

The ministry reiterated its call on the citizens to abide by the health-protective measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 infections in the country, according to the statement.

Iraq has taken a series of measures to contain the pandemic since February when the first coronavirus case appeared in the country. Enditem
