YAOUNDE, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- At least 13 people were killed overnight into Friday after a fire engulfed a tenement building in Cameroon's Far North region, according to local authorities.
The fire occurred at Guider locality of Mayo Louti division at a popular place called Carrefour Sedecoton, and was extinguished hours later by locals.
According to witnesses, the casualties included women and children.
Local media reported that a boy about 10 years old was in the building and managed to escape unharmed.
It is unclear what caused the fire. Officials have opened investigations into the tragedy. Enditem
