BAGHDAD, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The militants of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group killed on Saturday two villagers and a policeman in two attacks in the provinces of Salahudin and Anbar, a police source and a local official said.

In Salahudin province, IS militants kidnapped at noon two villagers from their farm near the town of Shirqat, some 280 km north of Iraq's capital Baghdad, Mohammed al-Bazi from the provincial police told Xinhua.

A local police force searched the area and found two beheaded bodies of the kidnapped villagers, al-Bazi said.

In the western province of Anbar, IS militants attacked in the evening a village near the town of Rutba, some 450 km west of Baghdad, leaving a policeman killed and four civilians wounded, said Imad al-Dulaimi, mayor of the town.

The security situation in Iraq has been improving since Iraqi security forces fully defeated the IS militants across the country late in 2017.

However, IS remnants have since melted in urban areas, deserts and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians. Enditem
