Chile registers 1,718 new cases from COVID-19

Chile remains under a state of catastrophe, with a nighttime curfew to reduce circulation and the spread of the virus.

SANTIAGO, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Chilean Ministry of Health reported on Saturday that 1,718 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 44 new deaths had been registered in the last 24 hours.

According to the official data, deaths associated with COVID-19 have reached 15,322, while the number of cases has risen to 548,941.

At the moment, 9,519 patients are in the active or contagious stage of the disease, while 523,792 have recovered.

Additionally, 703 people have been hospitalized in intensive care units (ICUs), with 554 on ventilators and 65 in critical condition.

Chile remains under a state of catastrophe, with a nighttime curfew to reduce circulation and the spread of the virus. However, several cities have moved to relax lockdown measures, while others, mainly in the south, have had to revert to stricter lockdowns due to a rise in infections.
