PHNOM PENH, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian anti-drug police have arrested a 20-year-old local man for allegedly smuggling more than 2 kg of illicit drug, the National Police reported on Sunday.

The suspect was arrested on Saturday afternoon in Borey Osvay Senchey district of northeast Cambodia's Stung Treng province.

"During his arrest, the police had seized a total of 20,000 methamphetamine pills weighing 2.03 kg," the National Police said on its website.

The man, along with the drug, had been sent to the Stung Treng Provincial Court for prosecution.

The Southeast Asian country has no death sentence for drug traffickers. Under its law, someone found guilty of trafficking more than 80 grams of drugs could be jailed for life.

According to the country's Anti-Drug Police Department, the kingdom nabbed 15,770 drug suspects, including 224 foreigners, during the January-September period this year, confiscating some 702 kg of illicit drugs. Enditem
