PHNOM PENH, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia once again closed all cinemas, arts performing venues and museums Monday after at least 14 people have so far tested positive for the COVID-19 in the first-ever community transmission.
The first local transmission was detected on Saturday after a local family of six people, who reside in both capital Phnom Penh and Northwest Siem Reap province, confirmed positive for the virus, as the origin of their infection was still unknown.
"To curb the virus spread, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts would like to temporarily close all museums, cinemas, and arts performing venues across the country for two weeks from today (Nov. 30) onwards," the ministry said in a statement.
The Southeast Asian nation also shut down schools across the kingdom for two weeks as well as a shopping mall and a hotel in the capital on Sunday.
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Monday called on all people who had contact with the infected people to go for testing at the designated locations and that they must go into a 14-day self-quarantine at home or at designated quarantine centers.
"This will be a disaster for Cambodia if we do not contain it timely," he said in a speech during a groundbreaking ceremony for roads in Northwest Siem Reap province and live televised on the National Television of Cambodia.
Since January to date, the Southeast Asian country has recorded a total of 323 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Health said, adding that none have died and 301 have recovered. Enditem
