JAKARTA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Banjarmasin district court in South Kalimantan province has sentenced Dimas Apriliano, a carrier of 208 kg crystal methamphetamine and 53,969 ecstasy pills, to death, according to an official on Monday.
Judge Mochamad Yuli Hadi said Apriliano was found guilty of violating Law 35/2009 on Narcotics based on which he got a maximum sentence of death.
On March 13, 2020, the South Kalimantan Police arrested Apriliano in the Jaro sub-district, Tabalong district, for carrying crystal methamphetamine and ecstasy from Malaysia.
The police also arrested Mahmudi alias Jun, Sahrul Gunawan alias Wawan, and Sulistyo in Samarinda, East Kalimantan province, for possessing 7 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 898 ecstasy pills, and 1.1 billion rupiahs (about 77,955 U.S dollars) in cash.
The police charged Mahmudi and Sahrul for possessing 7 kg of crystal methamphetamine and 898 ecstasy pills, while Sulistyo was accused of laundering 1.1 billion rupiahs.
Regarding the death sentence for Aprilianto, his lawyer Ernawati said she would file an appeal. Enditem
