WASHINGTON, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Dr. Scott Atlas, a coronavirus adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump, resigned on Monday, local media reported.

"I am writing to resign from my position as special adviser to the president of the United States," Atlas tweeted in a letter to Trump.

In the letter, Atlas also praised Trump's efforts and wishes "all the best" to the incoming administration under President-elect Joe Biden.

Atlas has called for an end to lockdowns in favor of a targeted approach to getting the United States back on its feet.

He has been serving a 130-day detail as a special government employee after joining the administration in August. His role is set to expire this week. Enditem
