HOUSTON, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Mayor Sylvester Turner of the U.S. city of Houston on Thursday asked people to get tested for COVID-19 after Thanksgiving gatherings as the city nears 100,000 cases.

During a press briefing Thursday afternoon, Turner encouraged those who gathered for Thanksgiving to get tested for COVID-19 and continue wearing a mask.

He asked businesses, especially bars, to bring down crowd sizes as the country's fourth largest city records nearly 100,000 COVID-19 cases.

Official figures show that as of Thursday, Houston has 99,396 total COVID-19 cases, 137 more than Wednesday. Turner also reported three new deaths in the city.

In order to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the city, Turner on Wednesday expressed the possibility of implementing a curfew.

"We're looking at the number of people in the hospital, we're looking at the positivity rate, and then taking a look at peoples' behavior. When you're looking at all of those factors, there may come a time where you say, 'This is where we impose a curfew," the mayor said. Enditem
