Indonesian minister named suspect in COVID-19 corruption case

JAKARTA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Minister for Social Affairs Juliari Batubara has been named a suspect in a corruption case related to the social assistance packages for families whose economies have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) announced here early Sunday.

In this case, the anti-graft agency named five suspects, consisting of three recipients and two givers.

KPK head Firli Bahuri told reporters that the minister and two other officials at the ministry, identified with their initials MJS and AW, have allegedly received bribes from the other two private contractors identified as AIM and HS.

Batubara is now in the KPK's headquarters for questioning related to the case. Enditem
