ROME, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Sassuolo temporarily moved up to second in Italy's Serie A after beating newly-promoted Benevento 1-0 thanks to Domenico Berardi's penalty.

Sassuolo took an early lead just seven minutes into the game, as Alessandro Tuia's handball in the box awarded the home side a penalty that Berardi stepped up to convert.

Sassuolo went down to 10 men straight after the interval, as Lukas Haraslin was given his marching orders after VAR intervention.

Benevento had the chance to equalize but Iago Falque's curler cannoned off the bar.

Sassuolo now sit second with 22 points, four points adrift of leaders AC Milan. Enditem
