A new high-speed passenger train service between Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province, and Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi Province, started operation on Saturday. The Zhengzhou-Taiyuan railway is the first high-speed one that runs through the Taihang Mountains. The 432-kilometer line cuts travel time between the two cities to about 2.5 hours, 9 hours shorter than trains at normal speed. The Zhengzhou-Jiaozuo section was put into operation in June, 2015. The newly-launched Jiaozuo-Taiyuan section is 372 kilometers long with 12 stations and 39 tunnels. On Saturday, 12 pairs of trains were arranged to operate at a maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour. From Sunday to January 2021, 11 pairs of trains will operate along the railway line daily.
