JAKARTA, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo virtually inaugurated the operation of the Patimban seaport in Subang district, West Java province, from the Bogor Presidential Palace in the province on Sunday.

"I declare that Patimban Port is ready and can be used," the president said at a function on initial operation of the Patimban International Port.

Widodo hoped the Patimban port would relieve the burden of the already congested Tanjung Priok port in North Jakarta.

According to him, the Patimban International Port has a strategic location between the Kertajati International Airport in Majalengka district and industrial estates in Bekasi, Karawang and Purwakarta which are all districts in West Java province.

Widodo believed that the Patimban International Port would serve as a key connector to other areas and support the acceleration of exports.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the Patimban port would be synergized with the Tanjung Priok port, so that it could improve time efficiency and national logistics costs.

The minister said, on the first day of its operation the maiden export of 140 Toyota, Daihatsu and Suzuki cars to Brunei would be carried out by PT Toyofuji's Suzuka Express ship. Enditem
