Laos discharges 1 more COVID-19 patient

VIENTIANE, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- One of the five remaining COVID-19 patients in Laos has been permitted to return home after showing negative for the virus in the second round of testing.

Deputy director general of the Department of Communicable Diseases Control under the Ministry of Health, Sisavath Soutthaniraxay, told a press conference in Lao capital Vientiane on Monday that the recovered patient is the country's 27th case of COVID-19, who had been treated in the Mittaphab Hospital (Hospital 150) since November 23.

On Sunday, a total of 1,997 people entered Laos through international border checkpoints. The temperature of each person entering Laos was checked and no one showed signs of fever.

According to the National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, it has been monitoring 2,165 people at 39 accommodation centers across the country.

Sisavath advised that every person must fully comply with the government guideline and adapt to new normal to stop the spread of the virus.

The total number of confirmed cases in Laos remained at 41, and 37 patients have recovered.

Another four patients are being treated at Mittaphab Hospital (Hospital 150) in Lao capital Vientiane, according to the report.

Laos reported its first two confirmed COVID-19 cases on March 24. Enditem
