LUSAKA, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Hakainde Hichilema, leader of Zambia's main opposition party, the United Party for National Development (UPND), appeared for interrogations on Wednesday at the police headquarters in Lusaka, the country's capital over a farm he acquired in the southern part of the country.
Esther Mwaata-Katongo, police spokesperson said the opposition leader was warned and cautioned for the offense of conspiracy to defraud when he purchased a farm in southern Zambia's Kalomo district. The incident happened in 2004.
The police spokesperson said the opposition leader allegedly purported himself as a community worker when he purchased the farm.
Hichilema later confirmed to journalists that police interrogated him and that he provided them with answers.
He said that the police who were interrogating him acted professionally and commended them.
He however expressed concern over the conduct of the police who were outside and used guns to disperse his supporters, resulting in the death of two people. Enditem
