BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Brunei government said on Thursday that the country is preparing for a prioritization and national deployment strategy once a COVID-19 vaccine that is safe and effective is available for use.

According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, a technical committee has been established to develop and implement a National Vaccination Strategy. Due to the limited global supply of vaccines, vaccine distribution will be done in phases and priority will be given to high-risk individuals first.

"When this vaccination program is implemented, each individual can play their role by getting themselves vaccinated once a vaccine is offered to you," the ministry said.

"The government is actively identifying effective and safe vaccine candidates and is securing access to these vaccines. Both multilateral arrangements via the COVAX (a WHO-led COVID-19 vaccine access plan) facility and bilateral arrangements with specific vaccine manufacturers were held and there are additional arrangements to ensure vaccine access and procurement for Brunei Darussalam," the ministry added.

Brunei reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday with the national tally of cases standing at 152. There are no active cases in the country and the total number of recovered cases remains at 149. It also marked the 16th consecutive day without new cases and the country has recorded 232 days without COVID-19 local infection case.

There have been three deaths that resulted from COVID-19 in Brunei. Enditem
