TASHKENT, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev suggested naming 2021 as the Year of Supporting Youth and Strengthening Public Health during his annual address to the country's parliament on Tuesday here.

"Investment in the harmonious development of the younger generation pays back to the society tenfold, hundredfold," he told deputies, adding that the coronavirus pandemic has proved the necessity of reforming the primary health care system, sanitary and epidemiological services radically.

Mirziyoyev also said the country will speed up efforts to accelerate its membership to the World Trade Organization, as well as to harmonize the country's technological norms practiced in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), where Uzbekistan has become an observer recently.

Mirziyoyev has made a tradition of addressing the Oliy Majlis, the country's two-chamber parliament annually at the end of the year since 2017, to review economic, social and political achievements of the country as well as to unveil government's main tasks for the coming year. Enditem
