BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Exchanges across the Taiwan Strait have been unprecedentedly impacted in 2020, with greater obstruction caused by artificial barriers than COVID-19, a mainland spokesperson said Wednesday.

Despite strong efforts made by the mainland, personnel exchanges and communication across the Strait remained extremely abnormal, said Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

Since February this year, the Democratic Progressive Party authorities in Taiwan have continued to suspend visits by mainland residents and canceled a large number of direct flights, Zhu said, adding that such measures have severely impacted cross-Strait exchanges and communication in various sectors.

During the coming new year, the mainland will make further efforts to offset the interferences and promote exchanges and cooperation across the Strait, Zhu said. Enditem
