Red Star overcomes Panathinaikos in basketball EuroLeague

BELGRADE, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Serbia's Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) overcame Panathinaikos from Greece 74-71 in Belgrade on Wednesday in round 17 of the regular season of the EuroLeague.

The guest team had a 6-0 run and gained a lead early in the match, but Red Star managed to catch up at 10-10.

Although the home team built a 16-point lead in the second quarter and managed to mark 10 3-pointers in the first half, the champion of the Greek League narrowed the gap to 11 points at 48-37 before the break, thanks to points of Nemanja Nedovic.

Panathinaikos once leveled at 68-68, but the home team stayed confident and resolved the match with precise free throws in the final seconds.

Corey Walden scored 17 points for Red Star, followed by Colom (13) and Ognjen Dobric (11). Ioannis Papapetrou scored 20 points for Panathinaikos.

The victory helped Red Star strengthen its 15th place in the EuroLeague table, just above the Greek team, which holds the 16th position. Enditem
