BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- With the COVID-19 pandemic fast changing the world, humankind has suffered a major setback in 2020. Faced with unprecedented changes, risks and uncertainties, people are forced to rethink the path into the future.

In this year, the vast majority of countries chose friendship and cooperation in the battle against the pandemic, believing that crisis could entail opportunities if the right response is made.

This fully shows that the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind has taken roots and people from around the world have come to the understanding that the concept offers a fundamental action plan to help address global challenges.

Proposed in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative refers to the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st century Maritime Silk Road, which aims at building trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient trade routes of the Silk Road.

International cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative has shown strong resilience and vitality in the face of the COVID-19 outbreak.

More is yet to come with the Belt and Road, which connects not only roads in countries but also the minds and hearts of people.
