Indonesia orders 329.5 million COVID-19 vaccines from various brands

JAKARTA, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo said that his country has ordered 329.5 million COVID-19 vaccines from various manufacturers, according to official sources on Wednesday.

In detail, 125.5 million doses of vaccine have been ordered from the Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech, including 3 million doses that have arrived in Indonesia.

"Then from Novavax 50 million doses, from COVAX-GAVI 54 million, AstraZeneca 50 million, and Pfizer 50 million," Widodo said in a limited meeting with ministers on Wednesday.

The first phase of vaccine distribution began on Sunday, Jan. 3, and they will be used on Jan. 13.

Indonesia is targeting to vaccinate 181.5 million people until next year.

The first period of vaccination will be from January to April 2021 which will inoculating 1.3 million medical workers, 17.4 million public workers, and 21.5 million elderly people.

The second period will run from April 2021 to March 2022 to inoculate 63.9 vulnerable people and 77.4 million others. Enditem
