NAIROBI, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said Thursday it has embarked on a renovation project to upgrade the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) terminals in Nairobi to position it as the preferred regional aviation hub.
KAA said the year-long airport development project which is estimated to cost 963 million shillings (about 8.8 million U.S. dollars) aims to refurbish the departure halls to improve the check-in, security screening, retail operations as well as passenger lounge experience.
"The remodeling project is an integral part of the ongoing JKIA customer service improvement plan (CSIP) which was formulated from feedback from our stakeholders and customers," KAA acting CEO Alex Gitari said in a statement issued in Nairobi.
He said once completed, the newly renovated light-filled departure terminals will deliver modern concessions and amenities that will give travelers a friendly and memorable experience.
Gitari said the revamp will also ease passenger flow and increase efficiency due to the centralization of security screening procedures and the reallocation of available floor spaces to international departure gates.
Gitari said passengers are requested to arrive at the airport at least four hours before their flight departures to minimize inconveniences. Enditem
